What is Budokon?
The name Budokon was created by its founder, Kancho Cameron Shayne. It was taken from the Japanese language: Bu (meaning warrior), Do (meaning the way), Kon (meaning the spirit or soul). This translates as “the way of the warrior spirit”. This name was chosen to represent a person living the WAY of the betterment of all humanity achieved through the SPIRIT of unwavering virtue and defended by the WARRIOR’s service, protection, and courage.
Budokon is an integral approach to the study of the universe and our relationship within it through the study of the Yogic, Martial, and Living arts. Budokon has a six pillar system which makes a body of science and philosophy used as a method to provide a practical means of realizing the highest ideals in daily living. Rather than separating different areas of human knowledge Budokon integrates them together. Budokon studies the tree of life as a whole rather than limiting itself to one branch. This tree is a great organization of diverse elements yoked together by the unifying natural law. Budokon seeks to understand this law and teach its principles.
Who is (KANCHO) Cameron Shayne?
Guru Killer, Primate Provocateur, Literary Warrior & Liberated Thinker
Born December 11th 1971, Cameron Shayne is considered the father of the mixed movement arts culture. He is a social philosopher, educator, fighter, yogi, satirist, artist, writer, and founder of Budokon University. Based in Los Angeles, CA, during the 90’s, the mecca for yoga in the Western world, Cameron established himself as one of the pioneering voices and transmitters of contemporary yoga and martial arts. As a teacher of teachers, he is renown for his founding of the Budokon Yoga style, the Budokon Mixed Movement Arts System, and his inspiring and provocative writings on the contemporary movement scene. His radically honest and transparent style of teaching through critical analysis has established him as a guiding voice for modern yoga and the movement culture.
Cameron began studying Martial Arts and Zen meditation at the age of 12, and yoga asana training at 25. He has black belts in both Japanese Karate-do and Korean Taekwondo, as well as his Brown Belt in Brazilian Jujitsu under the Gracie System. He has been studying and sharing Yoga, Martial Arts and Zen meditation collectively for over 30 years.
Kancho ~ “kan” means building or dojo. Cho Means the head or top (i.e shacho: president). Essentially, Kancho means Top or Head of the Organization. This title was given to CS by his Japanese students after traveling and teaching Budokon in Japan for many years.

Who is Dave Gardner?
I am a human. Inspired by the natural world, I have followed my intuition and explored the inner and outer reaches of this thing we call life. Seeking out teachers and friends that have helped me help myself and been by my side, my immersion into the practices of Yoga have been guided by legends.
I met Jim Harrington in 2011 and began studying with him in 2012 (this has lead to this very moment now), with many workshops, training and epic adventures along the way. While in India with Jim, I met Aditi Gaur of The Himalayan Yoga Tradition in 2013 in Rishikesh and have nurtured the powerful subtlety of her teachings. Immersing deeper into the practice of Synergy, Jim invited Simon Borg-Olivier to South Africa for the first time in 2014, which led me to following Simon to India to study with him and Bianca Machliss in 2015.
Rediscovering the power of natural and spinal movement, and longing to reconnect with my Muay Thai practice, I discovered Cameron Shayne and Budokon Yoga, a synthesis of Martial Arts, Yoga, Calisthenics and Animal Locomotion. I have recently returned from studying with Cameron and am focused on sharing my experience. All these teachers have been leaders, with a sense of powerful humility they have inspired me through their lives, and created a willingness within myself, to empower myself, and through this empower others. This is what I look to share…while moving, jumping, floating, flying, crawling, swinging, rolling, laughing and loving around like the monkey I am!
