Ashtanga Yoga as developed by Sri K Pattabhi Jois is a yoga system that offers both physical challenges and spiritual fulfillment. Through transformative poses called asanas the body and mind of the student is slowly reshaped allowing for new openness of both movement and thought. Ashtanga Yoga is a system of knowledge passed from teacher to student in order to ensure not only the details of the poses but the energetic principles that underlie them are understood.
This weekend immersion will delve into the Ashtanga Yoga Primary Series and give students a comprehensive introduction to the practice. The Primary Series is a dynamic sequence of asanas that include standing and seated poses connected by transitions known as vinyasas. Many of the poses will be familiar to students who’ve practiced other styles of yoga. The Primary Series offers students a chance to learn about breath and anatomy as it relates to yoga. It is appropriate for all levels of students as modifications will be discussed.
